Among South Korea’s new COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks, around 9% of them have unidentified sources of transmission, up from 7% in previous weeks. The Seoul Capital Area (SCA) has seen a recent surge of cases connected to religious gatherings, where the transmission route for several patients remains unknown. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) announced that 49 new cases had been identified on June 3, among which 45 were in the SCA. The majority of them were associated with religious gatherings, where efforts to contact trace failed to reveal a clear path of transmission.
