Konkuk University, the first South Korean university to respond to student demands for tuition refunds amid the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to pay each student between 290,000 and 300,000 won (US$241-249) to compensate for a decrease in education quality amid a shift to online classes and diminished access to educational facilities. The funds are to be taken from money that would have otherwise been spent on work-study scholarships, which are unusable because of COVID-19.
