South Korea reported 549 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), 529 of the cases were domestic transmissions while the remaining 20 were imported from overseas. The country’s cumulative total is now 115,195.

The greater Seoul area accounted for 349 of the cases: 147 in Seoul, 184 in Gyeonggi Province and 18 in Incheon. The remaining 180 occurred throughout other parts of the country. Among the 20 cases from overseas, 10 were detected during airport screening procedures, and the remaining 10 were confirmed while patients were in quarantine. Nine of the overseas patients were South Korean nationals and 11 were foreign nationals.

The number of patients undergoing treatment or in quarantine decreased by 205 to 8,166, while the number in severe or critical condition increased by 10 to 109. The cumulative death toll increased by one to 1,802.

The KDCA also reported that 121,234 people received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Monday, increasing the total number of first dose receivers to 1,639,490. The number of people who have received both doses increased by 1 to 60,586.

Among the first dose receivers, 1,043,457 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, while the remaining 596,033 received Pfizer’s. A total of 12,395 cases of adverse reactions have been reported, with 12,191 of those cases being mild and 155 severe. Forty-nine people so far have died after receiving a vaccination, although no link has been established between the deaths and the vaccination.
