A North Korean woman sells roasted chestnuts on the Okryu Bridge in Pyongyang at a recent date. The sale is illegal because selling goods at a location outside the state-sanctioned market is illegal in North Korea.

This photo, captured by a foreign tourist, shows that commercial transactions could spread beyond the marketplace in spite of North Korean authorities’ heavy crackdowns.
