HaniTV, the video production component of the Hankyoreh, released an English language version of their Cheonan documentary entitled, “Beneath the Surface: the Investigation into the Sinking of the Cheonan,” on Nov. 12. HaniTV reporters have worked in conjunction with National Assembly lawmakers, salvage experts, scientists, and members of civic organizations to conduct a deeper exploration into the South Korean government-led Civilian-Military Joint Investigation Group’s (JIG) final report on the sinking of the Cheonan.
The 24-minute documentary primarily explores scientific aspects of the investigation into the sinking of the Cheonan, finding significant flaws in the evidence presented by JIG and referring to the findings of the Russian investigation group.
The film also frames the ship’s sinking in a political context, and contends that tensions between the South Korea-U.S. and North Korea-China alliances in addition to the June 2 local elections were both factors in the rush to release the JIG’s findings, after a short two-month investigation.

The documentary has been posted on YouTube, the HaniTV and the Englishhani website (right column), and can be found at:
