North Korea is threatening “follow-up measures” in the event of an additional United Nations Security Council (UNSCR) resolution sanctioning it for the test-launch of its Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

The message on the afternoon of July 14 came in the form of a Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s response to questions from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

“Flustered by the successful test-launch of our intercontinental ballistic rocket Hwasong –14, the US is in a frenzy trying to drum up an unheard-up ‘ultra-intense sanctions resolution’ opposing us in the UN Security Council,” the spokesperson said.

“It’s making a real fuss about passing around the new ‘sanctions resolution’ draft [at the UNSC] and talking about putting it up for a vote without any compromising,” the spokesperson said.

“The US’s play in adopting a ‘sanctions resolution’ against North Korea is an expression of its heinous desire to cover up its own misdeeds in forcing us to strengthen our nuclear arms with its extreme hostile policies toward North Korea and extortion tactics using nuclear threats, while seeking to obliterate our right to autonomy and survival,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson also warned, “With the total success of the Hwasong-14 test launch, we have clearly shown our ability and commitment to strike at the heart of the US and instantly annihilate it if it does something rash.”

“If there is another ‘sanctions resolution’ from the UNSC, we will take appropriate follow-up measures and answer with an act of justice.”
