The US government has reserved hundreds of hotel rooms in the Vietnamese city of Da Nang, which has been named as a likely host for the second North Korea-US summit, according to Japanese press reports.

Japan’s commercially run Fuji News Network (FNN) reported on Feb. 7 that an official representing US President Donald Trump was seen in Da Nang the previous afternoon. The report quoted an anonymous Vietnamese official as saying the US government had “booked hundreds of hotel rooms on the seaside.” No separate reference was made to the reservation date.

Search results for the official website for the InterContinental Danang, which is seen as one of the Da Nang hotels capable of accommodating a summit, showed no room reservations available for either of the summit dates of Feb. 27 and 28. When contacted by telephone, the hotel said that guests would need to stay at least five or more nights, but did not indicate a reason.

During an address in Washington on Feb. 5, Trump officially announced a second North Korea-US summit in Vietnam on Feb. 27–28, but he has yet to name the meeting’s host city.
