The South Korean government provided US$8 million from its Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund to international organizations in order to provide food aid to children, pregnant and nursing mothers, and other vulnerable groups in North Korea. The Ministry of Unification announced on June 11 that the money has been wired to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP). The official decision to provide the aid was made on June 5. The photo shows South Korean Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul and WPF Executive Director David Beasley in Seoul on May 13. (photo pool)
