A spokesman for North Korea’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the government responsible for South Korean affairs, criticized South President Moon Jae-in and his celebratory Liberation Day address, saying, “We have nothing to talk any more with the south Korean authorities nor have any idea to sit with them again,” The statement, which was directed toward at international media outlets, even criticized Moon’s response to Japan’s economic retaliation measures, saying, “he failed to put forward any proper measures against the insult by the Japanese islanders and any ways to overcome the worsening economic situation.” The statement was released shortly after Moon’s address, in which he called on North Korea to cease from its current string of missile launches and demonstrates its commitment to dialogue toward peace on the Korean Peninsula.
