Regarding his surprise meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at Panmunjom on June 30, US President Donald Trump said that Kim called him within 10 minutes after he posted his tweet proposing the meeting. During an Aug. 15 radio interview with the New Hampshire station WGIR, Trump said, "When I was flying to South Korea, I had the idea: You know what? I'm going to South Korea, right next to North Korea, right where the border, right near there.” Trump elaborated, “I put out a tweet: Hey, I'm going to South Korea. If you want to meet for a couple of minutes, let's meet. And I put it out. And he was calling within 10 minutes.” Trump did not clarify as to whether the call was directly from Kim or from high-level officials. Trump recently tweeted on Aug. 10 that looks forward to seeing Kim in the “not too distant future.”
