A North Korean defector group has announced that it will continue launching balloons filled with anti-North propaganda across inter-Korean border, despite inter-Korean tensions being at their worst since 2017. The leader of one defector group, Big Spring (Keun Saem), told the Hankyoreh that it would continue with a balloon launch as originally planned near Seokmo Island in Incheon’s Ganghwa County on June 21. North Korea has named the balloon launches as one a major reason for cutting off communication lines with South Korea. The leader said, however, that if the government contacts the group directly and asks it to refrain from the balloon launches over national security concerns, then it will comply.
