The Hyundai Motor Group announced in a press release Sunday that Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 and Kia Motor’s EV6 had ranked first and second respectively in a comparative test by a German automotive magazine.

Auto Motor und Sport compared four sports utility vehicles — the Ioniq 5 and EV6, along with Tesla’s Model Y and Ford’s Mustang Mach-E — in seven categories, including body, safety and comfort.

The Ioniq 5 received top marks in four categories for a total of 650 points, beating out the Model Y (586 points) and the Mustang Mach-E (566) to take first place overall. It scored highest in comfort (which includes driving comfort, quiet ride, and convenience) and safety (which includes driving safety, braking distance, and safety equipment).

In its review, the magazine noted that, despite its boxy shape, the Ioniq 5 exhibited sleek and firm cornering. The car’s agile handling and ample space were points that made an impression, according to the review.

The EV6 received the highest scores in driving and movement (which includes handling and driving performance). With a total score of 636, EV6 ranked second overall.

Auto Motor und Sport described the EV6 as a car that is capable of agile driving with accurate steering that is smooth without being exaggerated.

Auto Motor und Sport is regarded as one of Germany’s three most reliable automotive magazines, along with Auto Bild and Auto Zeitung.
