Since April, LG Electronics and Starbucks Korea have been teaming up to provide coffee shops free from fine particle pollution. LG’s air filtration systems also provide heating and air conditioning in Starbucks branches throughout Korea. The process has been one of trial and error. The original air filtration systems LG provided could only filter a confined space covering 89 square meters, which was much too small an area for Starbucks Korea’s relatively expansive branches. LG has since upgraded its filtration systems to cover 145 square meters. Each branch with the system is also equipped with a display that indicates the interior’s level of fine particles. LG has also developed the drive-thru system that allows customers to order coffee from the convenience and comfort of their vehicles.
