The Ministry of Health and Welfare has signed an agreement with KEB Hana Bank to provide former smokers with a savings account offering an interest rate of 3% if they can prove that they’ve quit smoking. The one-year savings account will be offered to former smokers starting Dec. 20. The account requires a daily deposit with a minimum of 1,000 won (US$.086) and a cap of 10,000 won (US$8.59). The bank will send people with the account a daily text to which subscribers are required to reply.
