South Korea ranked last place among key OECD countries in it ratings for life satisfaction among children and adolescents; it ranked 22th place out of 22 countries for children’s subjective well-being. According to a study commission by the Korea Bang Jeong-hwan Foundation to Yonsei University’s Institute for Social Development Studies, subjective happiness index indicators for South Korean children in 2019 averaged at a score of 88.51, ranking South Korea 20th out of 22 key OECD nations. South Korean children ranked the lowest of the 22 nations for life satisfaction, meaning South Korea had the greatest proportion of children who said they were dissatisfied with their current life. Yeom Yoo-sik, the sociology professor who headed the study, said what’s particularly worrying is that the age at which children say money is the biggest factor of happiness is getting progressively younger.
