Ewha Womans University held its first in-person matriculation ceremony in four years.

On Friday morning, more than 3,000 incoming freshmen and their families attended the 2023 school year admission ceremony at the university’s auditorium and other locations on campus, located in Seodaemun District, Seoul.

The freshmen, stars of the day, attended the ceremony in the main auditorium, while their families and friends watched the ceremony live from the graduate school building and the smaller auditorium.

The highlight of the ceremony was the performance of the university’s male faculty choir. After welcoming remarks from President Kim Eun-mee and the introduction of key tenured professors, the Ewha Womans men’s faculty choir, known as the “Ewha’s idols,” took the stage.

The middle-aged professors performed Zico’s “New Thing,” NewJeans’ “Hype Boy” and Ive’s “Love Dive” — all with slightly modified lyrics — complete with choreography. The lively performance by the stern, solemn-looking professors was met with cheers and continuous camera flashes from the incoming freshmen.

Composed of current professors, the university’s men’s faculty choir has performed medleys of famous K-pop idol songs at every matriculation ceremony since its formation in 1997. Their performances have always been a highlight of the ceremonies.

The incoming freshmen will now spend the next four years in one of the 15 colleges and 76 departments at Ewha Womans University.
