The 2023 Hankyoreh-Busan International Symposium kicked off on Wednesday at the Nurimaru APEC House in the southern city’s Haeundae District. This year’s symposium is taking place under the theme “Global Arms Race and Climate Crisis: Asking the Way to Life and Peace,” and will continue on Thursday.

Starting off with a welcome address from Moon Chung-in, the chairman of the Hankyoreh Foundation for Reunification and Culture, Wednesday’s opening ceremony included remarks from Ahn Byung-yoon, Busan’s vice mayor of administrative affairs; Park Jung-muk, the vice chairperson of the Busan Metropolitan Council; and Lee Un-ju, a former lawmaker with the People Power Party.
