A protest sprung up on a college campus during the school's spring festival, targeting what participants described as an Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Students from the Seoul National University (SNU) Palestine solidarity club “Soobak” held a sit-in and rally from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Wednesday in front of the Jaha Pond at SNU’s Gwanak campus in Seoul.
This demonstration was part of a broader wave of campus occupations that began with American college students and has now spread globally, with students in Korea joining in solidarity. The participants explained that they decided to take part in this movement to raise awareness “about the need to end the genocide that Israel has been committing and the 76-year occupation of Palestine.”
The students demanded that “SNU officials cut academic ties with Israeli institutions (Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University) that aid in the oppression of Palestine” and called for “an immediate end to the genocide occurring in Gaza” while condemning Israel’s invasion of Rafah.
