The police team responsible for investigating President Yoon Suk-yeol’s declaration of martial law on Dec. 3, 2024, is considering requesting an arrest warrant for Yoon after he defied a third summons for questioning.
“As Yoon ignored our summons for a third time, we are discussing further steps with the special counsel team,” the police unit revealed Thursday.
“Applying for an arrest warrant is one option we are considering,” the team said, announcing that it is consulting Cho Eun-seok, the special counsel overseeing the insurrection probe, on next steps.
When a suspect refuses to comply with summonses three times, it is standard protocol to turn to compulsory measures for investigation, starting with an arrest warrant. The special police unit has repeatedly underscored the necessity of conducting an “in-person interrogation” of Yoon.
