According to a study conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, South Koreans are more prejudiced against sexual minorities than they are against North Korean defectors and migrant workers. On a scale of one to five, five being the highest level of explicit prejudice, the average South Korean scores 3.23 when it comes to their view of sexual minorities, compared to 2.99 for migrant workers and 2.9 for North Korean defectors. The study differentiated between “explicit prejudice” and “silent prejudice,” the former involving outward expression.
