A Seoul court has sentenced Chung Kyung-shim, professor at Dongyang University and wife of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, to four years in prison and a fine of 500 million won (US$451,751) for forging her daughter’s academic records.

On Dec. 23, the Seoul Central District Court charged Chung with falsifying official documents and obstruction of duty regarding her daughter’s medical school application. The court dismissed charges of embezzlement in connection to a private equity fund, but recognized charges of insider trading using an account under a false name and withholding evidence. The court ordered Chung’s immediate detention after announcing the verdict.
