Greenpeace, an international environmental group, held a protest Wednesday in front of the National Assembly, criticizing its recent climate change legislation for being insufficient, as none of the four bills define a greenhouse gas reduction goal for the year 2030. The UN has previously recommended that South Korea reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from its 2017 level by 2030.

Greenpeace said South Korea would become the seventh country in the world to legally designate a carbon neutrality goal if it passed such legislation. The group presented its recommendations in the form of a prescription, noting that South Korea needs to invest more in renewable energy, phase out gas-powered vehicles and introduce more electric vehicles.
