The Yeongdeungpo district office closed Yunjung Street on Wednesday to discourage people from flocking to the street, which is famous for its cherry trees. The closure, enforced to stem the spread of COVID-19, began a day earlier than initially planned as cherry blossoms are expected to reach peak bloom sooner than expected.
Despite the closure, people crowded nearby streets at around noon the same day. The district office has canceled the spring cherry blossom festival again this year.
