On Thursday, the Confucian “goyurye” ritual was held at Daeseong Hall, located inside the Sungkyunkwan University Humanities and Social Sciences Campus in the Jongno District of Seoul, ahead of the university’s summer graduation ceremony.
Goyurye refers to a ritual unique to Sungkyunkwan University, during which participants visit a shrine dedicated to Confucius in order to announce major school events like matriculation, graduation or the construction of new buildings.
Sungkyunkwan University also held its first in-person graduation ceremony in three years.
The university made the statement, “We held the graduation ceremony, which has been held online for a while due to COVID-19, in person, so that members of the university can all participate in encouraging the hard work of graduates and cheering for their new beginning.”
Here are some pictures from the scene.
