South Korean civic groups gathered in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square on Oct. 6 for a commemorative event marking 2,000 days since the Sewol ferry tragedy on Apr. 16, 2014. Demonstrators vowed to not forget the tragedy and renewed their calls on the government to investigate the truth behind the ferry’s sinking. Despite the day’s gloomy weather, over 1,500 people (organizers’ estimate) showed up to the event, holding balloons that read, “We want to live in a safe country.” The photo shows demonstrators watching a video on the Sewol tragedy.
