BTS beat its own record — once again — as its single “Butter” topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for the fifth week in a row.

Released on May 21, “Butter” remained in first place on this week’s Hot 100 chart, which Billboard published on June 28.

“Butter” is one of 54 songs that have rocketed to the top of the chart upon release; it’s one of just 11 songs that have stayed in first place for five consecutive weeks.

The only other song by a group that has debuted at the top of the chart and remained there longer than “Butter” is “One Sweet Day,” which Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men released in 1995. “One Sweet Day” stayed in first place for 16 weeks in a row.

BTS has spent a total of 10 weeks at the top of the Hot 100 to date with four different songs: three with “Dynamite,” one with the “Savage Love” remix (as a featured act), one with the Korean-language “Life Goes On,” and now five with “Butter.”

After learning about the song’s fifth straight week topping the Hot 100 chart, BTS member Suga shared a message on the fan community Weverse.

“It’s great to have something to show for going without sleep. Five weeks is a bit frightening, but I’m happy,” he wrote.

“I love you, Army. Thank you so much. Let’s enjoy this,” he added.

Fellow member Jin wrote, “Wow, we’ve been number one for five weeks. Thank you so much.”

“These have been really amazing experiences thanks to Army. I love you,” he continued.

The Hot 100 is Billboard’s main singles chart, a weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the US based on a combination of data including downloads, streaming, and radio airplay. It is considered one of Billboard’s two main charts alongside the Billboard 200 for albums.

BTS has also announced plans to release a CD featuring “Butter” and additional music on July 9. The new song is to feature the participation of Ed Sheeran, who previously worked with the group on the 2019 song “Make It Right.”
