Ahead of next week’s UN Climate Ambition Summit, which will be attended by global leaders including South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Korean environmental activists held a flash demonstration that blocked coal trucks from entering a coal-fired power station being built by Samcheok Blue Power in Samcheok, Gangwon Province.

“We’ve held this demonstration to support the global campaign to end the use of fossil fuel and to bring awareness to the fact that the fossil fuel industry is actually expanding and that large corporations and the South Korean government are behaving like climate villains,” the activists said.

Five members of environmental groups were hauled off by the police after blocking traffic for more than two hours.
