The Cultural Heritage Administration and the Rural Development Administration held a rice seedling transplanting demonstration Monday at a rice paddy in front of the Cheonguijeong Pavilion at Changdeok Palace in Seoul.

The annual demonstration is held to inform the South Korean public about the tradition of Chingyung-rye, in which Joseon Dynasty kings transplanted rice seedlings into the paddy to encourage farmers and wish for a good harvest.

The demonstration was not opened to the public due to safety concerns regarding COVID-19. Monday was chosen for the event as the palace is closed on Mondays to visitors.
