The giant panda Fu Bao has been enjoying her final winter in South Korea.
With snow falling across South Korea on the morning of Dec. 20, Fu Bao could be seen enjoying the first snowfall in some time, rolling around in a field of snow at Everland’s panda enclosure in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
With her body covered in flakes, Fu Bao attracted attention from zoo-goers as she climbed a tree to snack on bamboo.
Fu Bao was born on July 20, 2020, at the Everland Theme Park’s zoo in Yongin, measuring 16.5 centimeters in height and weighing 197 grams. She was the result of a first-ever successful natural breeding in South Korea between the only two giant pandas in the country, mother Ai Bao and father Le Bao.
The name “Fu Bao” comes from the Chinese words meaning “jewel that gives happiness.” In July of this year, Fu Bao became the older sister to twin females also born to Ai Bao and Le Bao.
Fu Bao is scheduled to return to China before July 2024. The current contract states that she is to be returned to China for breeding as she reaches four years of age.
